Casuarina nodiflora. Family Casuarinaceae, Fijian name Velau. Botanical notes: A large forest tree with green four-angled, needle-like branches and with the true leaves reduced to tiny scales. The female plants produce spikey wooden fruits up to 4cm in diameter.
It is an interesting fact that the Casuarina nodiflora frequently grows in association with the yaka. Young seedlings are very delicate, and seek the shade.
